Come see The Unkindness this Saturday from 1-1:45pm in the “Panels” room at The Watch City Fesitval in Waltham, MA.
This weekend all Unkindness members (and some members to be) will be attending and presenting at The 2013 Watch City Festival in Waltham, MA. What’s unique about Watch City is that while most conventions are mainly indoors at hotels and convention centers, Watch City is an open-air event that takes over Downtown Waltham for an entire weekend. It’s a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the (hopefully) beautiful spring weather in a city rich with industrial-era history. Break out your parasols, this event is perfect for both Steampunks and muggles alike! In my experience Watch City fosters the friendliest environment for non-Steampunks, so even if you’re just curious this festival will be a wonderful experience.
For 2013 I am most excited to attend the Friday Night Preview Party and La Cirque de la Lune on Saturday night. The Preview Party will be held at the Watch City Brewing Co beginning at 6pm and will feature musical guests Rob Byrd, Steampunk Blues Crew, and Frenchy and the Punk. FnP will be joined by another a personal favorite of mine – Steampunk bellydancer Samara! For me this will be a perfect evening to kick back a little (you may even catch Belladonna out of costume) before the formal festivities begin.
La Cirque de la Lune will begin with a family friendly show featuring daring acts of wonderment from 6:30-8:30pm on Saturday. However, I’ll first be joining the Wandering Legion’s pubcrawl (“Finding Tea: A Gentleman’s Guide to Nightcaps” beginning at 6:30pm) before heading over to the 21+ performances from 9:30-Midnight. The adults only show features The Piscis Volans, Karnevil, and Ki-Ra Luna before a special performance by one of my most favorite musical acts - Walter Sickert and the Army of Broken Toys. Sounds like my kind of party!
It’s also great to see that Evan and Mike, the owners of the famed Obscura Antiques and Oddities shop and the stars of the television series Oddities, are getting more involved with the Steampunk community. I hope to catch their panel “Oddities Show and Tell” because I’ve always wanted to visit their shop, and I’m completely fascinated by their business and the stories behind the dark treasures they sell.
Those are simply a few highlights to this weekend absolutely packed with informative panels and fantastic entertainment. View the full schedule to see who else will be appearing and plan your weekend now!
Belladonna will be appearing all day Saturday and will be presenting Monsters: Scarred for Life with Dr. Phobias from 1-1:45pm on Saturday in the “Panels” room. Please stop by and check us out!
